Floor Plans
Ground
The ground floor is ADA-accessible from the east side of McCain, facing the Alston Student Center, with electric door openers. On the ground floor of McCain before you enter the library, you will find the G-11 Mac classroom, G-13 Grad Student Lounge, the Center for Digital & Visual Literacy (CDVL), the Flex and One Button studios, two restrooms, library lockers, a Canon printing/scanning/copying station, the Special Collections Reading Room, and non-library staff offices.
The library’s portion of the ground floor includes a Canon printing/scanning/copying station, bound periodicals, Library of Congress M and N call number ranges, LPs and CDs, study carrels, the Elmore Reading Room, and three media viewing rooms that are reservable. In addition to stairs at either end of the ground floor, a central elevator is also available and includes access to all floors of the library. There are also two gender neutral restrooms on the library’s ground floor.
Floor 1
The first floor of McCain Library is ADA-accessible from the front entrance ramp facing the Woodruff Quad. To drop off items when the library is closed, use the book drop located to the left of the front doors. Services on the first floor include borrowing and returning items at the circulation desk, and research assistance from the Scottie Research and Rescue desk. In addition, the first floor includes the Main Reading Room, the Cameron Terrace, the Reader’s Gallery, tables and study carrels, two reservable study rooms (131 and 132), and library staff offices. Printing, scanning, and copying is provided by two Canon machines. Physical collections on this floor include browsing, reference, Smith, DVD, VHS, anime and manga, current periodicals, and Library of Congress A through C call number ranges. In addition to stairs at either end of the first floor, a central elevator is available and includes access to all floors of the library. One gender neutral restroom is available.
Floor 2
Floor 2 houses the library’s classroom (211), the Betty Pope Scott Noble ‘44 Heritage Center museum, two restrooms (not gender neutral), a display case in the lobby, and archival storage. Floor 2 is accessible via the elevator, the front stairs, or the adjacent stairs from Stacks 1 or 2.
Floor 3
Floor 3 is for quiet study use and includes tables, study carrels, and a non-reservable silent study room (402). Collections housed on the third floor include oversized folios and Library of Congress PS through Z call number ranges. To access Stack 3, use the adjoining steps. Floors 2 and below can be accessed using the front facing stairs. Additionally, the central elevator is available and includes access to all library floors. One gender neutral restroom is available.
Stack 1
Stack 1 includes the Library of Congress D through H call number ranges and two reservable study rooms (216 and 217). To access Stack 2, use the adjoining steps. The first floor and below can be accessed using the rear stairs. Additionally, the elevator is available and includes access to all floors of the library. One gender neutral restroom is available.
Stack 2
Stack 2 includes the Library of Congress J through L and P through PR call number ranges and one reservable study room (305). To access Floor 3, use the adjoining steps. Stack 1 and below can be accessed using the rear stairs. Additionally, the elevator is also available and includes access to all floors of the library. One gender neutral restroom is available.
Stack 3
A silent study floor, Stack 3 includes the Library of Congress PS through Z call number ranges. To access Floor 3, use the adjoining steps. Stack 2 and below can be accessed using the rear stairs. Additionally, the elevator is also available and includes access to all floors of the library. One gender neutral restroom is available.
